The sanctuary of St Nicholas church, Compton

Welcome to our church.

There has been a church on this spot for well over one thousand years. Parts of the fabric date back to Saxon times, before the Norman Conquest, although most of what you can see dates from the late eleventh and the twelfth centuries.

Over the centuries, a countless number of people have come here to worship, to pray and to enjoy the beauty and the peace. This is indeed hallowed ground, witnessing to the Christian faith.

  • THE REVD CAROLINE BURNETT - WELCOME

As we have travelled through Lent on our journey to Easter, we have all been thinking about the welcome we will give to Caroline, our new rector.

The Installation and Licensing Service on St George's Day, Tuesday April 23rd, is to be held at St Mary's Church, Shackleford. ALL regular worshippers, those on the parish electoral rolls and others interested in welcoming Caroline are invited. You will not receive individual invitations but know that you are welcome at 7.30pm for the service and for drinks and finger food afterwards at Shackleford Village Hall, next to the church. Parking, by kind invitation of the Buer family, will be in the field at Norney Farm, opposite St Mary’s school.

A coach from Bushey will come with her friends and supporters. All clergy present, who will include those from local parishes in our Diocese and also a number from Caroline's current parish and locality, will be invited to robe and join the procession. It will be a grand occasion. Some representatives from local institutions will be called upon to greet Caroline during the service.

The following Sunday, 28th April, will be a Benefice Service at 10am at St Nicholas’ Church, Compton. This will be Caroline's first service for us all and we welcome everyone to attend and show her our support.

On Sunday 5th May, Caroline will be taking the annual Rogation Sunday service at 6pm at St Nicholas Church, Peper Harow. This is the service when the local fields are blessed.

Caroline will be living in the cottage next to Compton Rectory.
