St Nicholas Church, Compton, Surrey.

Welcome to our church.
There has been a church on this spot for well over one thousand years.
Parts of the fabric date back to Saxon times, before the Norman Conquest, although most of what you can see dates from
the late eleventh and the twelfth centuries.
Over the centuries, a countless number of people
have come here to worship, to pray and to enjoy the beauty and the peace.
This is indeed hallowed ground, witnessing to the Christian faith.
From the rector:
"I announced in church last Sunday [2nd October] that I shall be retiring next year. My
last Sunday will be the 19th February.
I am to become the House for Duty
Priest (i.e. part time vicar) in two tiny villages in another Diocese.
More details here.
Obviously this is a time of very mixed emotions for me, but I think it right
to go before I run out of steam, rather than after".
With all good wishes
John
